You’ll be leaving from Calgary International Airport and traveling to one of about four airports in India most likely. There are more than 100 airports in India but your destination will probably be New Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, or Hyderabad. New Delhi is the most popular when flying from Calgary as there are the most flights offered. New Delhi’s airport is called Indira Gandhi International Airport. It’s the busiest passenger airport in India. The second busiest airport in India is Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai. You might also fly into Sarkar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Hanson, 5.6 miles north of the centre of Ahmedabad. It’s the seventh busiest airport in India. Finally, you could fly into Hyderabad. This is the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. It’s located 15 miles south of Hyderabad and is the sixth busiest in the country.
It’s unfortunate, but there are no direct flights running from Calgary to India. You’ll have to make at least one stop, and most likely two. Air Canada has several flights going into Delhi in India. They also fly into Mumbai. You can find flights on United and Air France as well. Flights from Calgary to India will take upwards of 18 hours of flight time. You also need to remember that you’ll be losing time going to India. The time difference will cost you a day going there.
Air Canada has stopovers in Toronto before heading to India. When going to Mumbai, they will stop in Toronto and then usually London Heathrow. Going to New Delhi, Air Canada will also sometimes make stops in Vancouver. If you choose to go with United and you’re flying into Mumbai, you will stop in Chicago O’Hare first, and then make another stop in Frankfurt before heading on to your final destination.
You will need a valid passport that still has at least 180 days before the expiration date left on it. You will have to apply for an e-Visa before your trip. Leave at least four days to get it. You should print the e-Visa out and take it with you to expedite the process when you get to the immigration counter in the airport.
