These days, budget airlines and increased competition mean one-way tickets can sometimes be just as affordable, especially for domestic or short-haul flights. That said, for international or long-haul travel, round-trip fares are often the better deal. You can also save by booking two separate one-way tickets on different airlines, a strategy known as a “hacker fare.”

Most airlines, including budget carriers that specialize in shorter routes, offer one-way tickets. Popular choices among Cheapflights users include WestJet and Etihad Airways, with 23% and 14% of one-way bookings, respectively. However, keep in mind that some destinations with strict visa requirements may require proof of onward travel. While your airline may sell one-way tickets, it’s worth checking if your destination requires additional documentation, particularly for international trips.

According to Cheapflights data, some of the best deals for one-way domestic flights in the past two weeks were Vancouver to Victoria at C$ 42; Penticton to Vancouver at C$ 43; and Medicine Hat to Calgary at C$ 52.

You can score cheap one-way tickets to international destinations too. Recent Cheapflights data highlights some incredible deals, like Hamilton, Ontario to Orlando for C$ 86; Toronto to Boston for C$ 101; and Vancouver to Los Angeles for C$ 117.
