If you’re flying from Toronto to Turkey, your trip will start at Pearson International Airport and will most likely end at Istanbul Airport in Istanbul, Turkey. Though the flight covers a lot of distance, you can find a direct flight if you wish. Most of the flights for this trip are going to have at least one stop, however. You will be flying into Istanbul Airport. It’s located to the side of the city that is considered to be European. It’s in the region of Arnavutkoy. This is the new main airport in the city. The former one, Istanbul Ataturk Airport was closed completely earlier in 2019 for commercial, passenger travel. The airport is still expanding so that by 2028 it will be able to handle up to 200 million travelers.
You can fly directly to Turkey from Toronto on a Turkish Airlines flight that goes from Pearson International Airport to Istanbul Airport without making any stops in between. The flight time is 9h 45m.
KLM, as well as some other airlines, have stopovers in Amsterdam. Some of these only have about a few hours of time at the airport before moving on to Turkey. They only lengthen your travel time by up to four hours. Lufthansa has a stopover in Frankfurt. One is just one hour long. Air Canada stops in Paris and sometimes in London at Heathrow. The stops vary from a couple of hours up to over 11 hours. United has stops in Washington DC and then Frankfurt. You will find that most of the flights are still under 20 hours in travel time.
You do need your passport that has at least 60 days of validity left beyond your trip. You will also need a visa to travel to Turkey. You can obtain an e-Visa online before your trip. You can get the visa once you get to Turkey but it is quicker and easier to do it online before you travel most of the time.
