In terms of weather, the best time to take flights to Trapani is during the summer months of July and August. Temperatures at this time of year are normally very pleasant, reaching an average high temperature of 30 degrees in August. Some hotels even operate a 'super high season' in August when the prices are at their highest. Fans of architecture will appreciate the variety of beautiful buildings in the city, such as the Church of Saint Augustine with its wonderful rose window. If there is still time, the nearby historic town of Erice is well worth a visit: it is reachable via a stunning cable car ride.

A number of bus services operate in and around the city. A good tip is to purchase a Welcome Card which for a reasonable price gives 3 days unlimited travel and discount on entry to museums. However, Trapani is easily walkable, so most places can be reached on foot.

Getting from the Airport to the City

The nearest airport serving flights to Tranpi is Vincenzo Florio Airport (TPS) in the town of Birgi (the airport is also known as Trapani-Birgi airport). It is about 9 miles (14 km) away from the city centre and visitors have the option of taking one of the bus shuttle services that run from the airport which takes around 20 minutes. Alternatively, taxis can be caught from the waiting area opposite the main entrance.
