The duration of the flight from Canada to Larnaca International Airport (LCA) in Cyprus depends on the city from which you fly. Flights from cities in eastern Canada, such as Toronto and Montreal, can be as short as 11h 55min or can take over 33h to reach the destination. Flights from Vancouver in western Canada take at least 17h 25min and can last more than 58h, depending on how many stops are involved and the length of the stopover(s).

Unfortunately, direct flights from Canada to Cyprus are not available at this time. However, there are many flight options with only one stop. The best Cyprus flight deals are with flights out of Toronto, which has the most single-stopover flights scheduled. Common stopover cities for this route are Vienna and Frankfurt. It is harder to find a one-stop flight from Montreal, where most of the flights have at least two stops. Many of the Montreal flights stop in Toronto or an eastern US city, such as New York, Boston or Washington, DC, before heading to Europe. If you’re flying out of Vancouver, your flight will probably have at least two stops, the first normally taking place in another Canadian city (often Toronto) before heading to a European city (such as Vienna or Frankfurt) for the second stopover.

Larnaca International Airport is about 6.1 km south of the Finikoudes promenade in the city centre. The city buses stop at the airport near the departures hall and can take you anywhere around town for about €1.50 (C$ 2.25). The 425 bus can take you to the Finikoudes promenade in about 25min, and the buses depart from the airport every 30min. You can also catch a taxi outside the airport, which can transport you downtown in about 15min. Rideshare apps like Uber and Lyft are not yet available at the airport.

The city of Larnaca is filled with historic sites, such as the Church of Saint Lazarus and the Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque. Tourists are also attracted to the natural wonders in the area, which include Larnaca Salt Lake, where flocks of flamingos can be spotted in the winter months, and local beaches. If you plan to explore Cyprus outside of Larnaca, you can channel your inner Greek god and hike to the top of Mt Olympus or take in the history of the Kato Paphos Archaeological Park on the island’s west coast. Late February and early March is Carnival time in Cyprus, with many towns holding festivals before the start of Lent. If you’re visiting Cyprus in May and June, you may want to check out the popular Bellapais Music Festival, which features a variety of classical music genres. In the first week of September, the town of Limassol comes alive to celebrate the wines, dance and music of the region in its annual Limassol Wine Festival.

Canadian citizens are only required to carry a valid Canadian passport to visit Cyprus; a tourist visa is not required. With a passport, Canadians can stay in Cyprus for up to 90 days. This policy may change in the future if Cyprus, which is part of the European Union, joins the Schengen Area and starts enforcing the border control policies held by other countries in the area.

Peak season: As the weather is good for most of the year, the peak season runs for many months.  Off season: The winter lasts only for December and January. The resorts in Cyprus, unlike much of the Mediterranean, tend to stay open in the winter so fares won’t plummet.
