Rich in history, Kiev straddles the geographic and cultural divide between Eastern Europe and Russia. Book a cheap flight to Kiev and you’ll find a thriving metropolitan city teeming with monuments, historical sites and cultural intrigue.
Kiev’s climate is humid continental; the warmest months are June, July, and August, when average temperatures reach the mid-20s (Celsius). Snow covers the ground typically from November through March.
Unless you speak Russian or Ukrainian, don’t rent a car – the street signs are in Cyrillic, which will make navigation next to impossible. Instead, know where you want to go ahead of time and take the bus or trolley. Marked taxis are available also, as are unmarked “gypsy” taxis. The latter option is relatively safe during the day, though best avoided at night for a precaution. There is also a funicular that rides the incline to the elevated part of town – a most scenic travel option.
