But Connecticut has its quirks. While many visitors book flights to Connecticut in an effort to escape the chaos of big city living, there are the little idiosyncrasies that make Connecticut a place worth exploring.
Insider tip: If your Connecticut flights lead you to Hartford, make sure you abide by the laws. Under no circumstances in Hartford are you allowed to cross the street while walking on your hands!
While New England is known for its diverse and drastic season changes, Connecticut is fairly mild.Winters are cold, with average temperatures fluctuating below zero. Spring has variable temperatures with frequent rainfall. Summer is hot and humid throughout the state, but it’s also high tourist season so flights to Connecticut are often more expensive and hotels and resorts book up fast. Fall months are mild, and bring foliage across the state in October and November. During hurricane season, tropical cyclones occasionally affect the region. Thunderstorms are most frequent during the summer.

Summer is high season for most attractions when visitors have the most options, and the most crowds, especially along the shore.
July and August, and weekends from May to Columbus Day are packed with tourists in Mystic and the Southeastern coast. Along with the crowds, attractions and restaurants are packed and rooms need to be booked months in advance. Tourists booking Connecticut flights and hotels for summer vacations should plan far in advance to avoid paying high prices and overcharges.
Many attractions close in the winter, but fall and spring are excellent times to visit — fall for the foliage and spring for the gardens and town greens in bloom. Several of the attractions that close in the winter reopen in April or May.
The third-smallest state (90 miles wide and 55 miles from top to bottom) is well connected by major roads. With several interstates you have ample access to all parts of the state from the Long Island shoreline north and northeast of Hartford. For more scenic routes through the state, try as the Merritt Parkway, U.S. 7, and Route 8.
Rail service connects New London and New Haven, Stamford and stops along the way to Waterbury, and Hartford. Several bus lines provide transportation throughout the state, and ferries take travellers along the waterways.
There are a few cities in Canada that periodically have Connecticut flight deals, including Toronto and Vancouver, which are two of the largest cities in Canada. You can book cheap flights to Connecticut from both of these cities to Bradley International Airport, which is the major airport in the state and the only airport serving Canadian flights. When you depart from Toronto for Bradley International Airport, you can expect for your trip to take anywhere from nine to 12h, while flights from Vancouver to the same airport will often last 11-26h total.
Unfortunately, direct flights from Canada to Connecticut are not currently available. When flying out of Toronto Pearson International Airport for Bradley International Airport, you will usually have one layover, which may be at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. If you’re interested in flights to Connecticut that depart from Vancouver International Airport, you’ll typically have either one or two layovers, and these may take place at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), or Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD).
Connecticut is known for having an interesting mix of urban and rural. If you’re traveling to a more remote area, such as Hopeville Pond State Park, consider renting a car for transportation. If you’re mainly going to stay in the city you flew in to, i.e., Hartford, you can always use ride-service apps like Lyft or Uber. CTtransit is known for providing a variety of inter-city buses that you can use to travel throughout the state. There’s also an extensive railway system that connects most of the state’s populous areas. For instance, you can quickly travel from Stamford to New Haven through Amtrak.
For a unique way to learn about the state’s history, pay a visit to the Mystic Seaport Museum, which is a re-creation of a 19th-century fishing village. Art enthusiasts will want to plan a tour of the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, which has many exhibits dedicated to American artists from the 19th and 20th centuries. Another very popular attraction in the state is the Mark Twain House & Museum, which teaches visitors about the life and works of the famous author. Those who enjoy architecture will certainly want to visit the Gillette Castle State Park, a private residence that was built in the early 1900s.
If you’re a Canadian citizen and would like to travel to Connecticut or any other location in the United States, you do not need to worry about getting a visa. However, you will be asked to present a valid passport when passing through immigration at the airport. If you don’t have a visa, your stay in the United States as a tourist is limited to 90 days, and you will not have the right to work without a visa.
