• Get closer to nature. Hike, camp overnight or reserve a 1930s cabin in the Wilderness Area of Haleakala National Park.
• If you happen to be visiting during the months from December to April then you can’t miss a day of Humpback whale watching. These magnificent mammals migrate from Alaskan waters and mate and birth in the warm waters off Maui.
• Visit The Carthaginian II in Lahaina, a ship museum dedicated to whaling and whales. The original Carthaginian was lost at sea and this ship came from Denmark. There’s an original whaling boat in the museum found in Alaska and artefacts related to the whaling industry.
• Maui is synonymous with pineapples. Take a tour of the Maui Pineapple Plantation lead by the plantation workers themselves and pick your own pineapple to take home.
• The Garden of Eden botanical garden and arboretum is well worth a visit. View the natural ecosystems and native species of Hawaii. Explore the garden’s nature trails, hidden waterfalls, and beautiful views including Keopuka Rock, of Jurassic Park fame.
