Canadians flying with Lufthansa can check-in online between 23 hours and one hour before departure, or via SMS (for HON Circle Members, Lufthansa Senators or Lufthansa Frequent Travellers), phone or at one of the quick check-in kiosks at the airport. For all departure airports in Canada (Montreal, Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver) the deadline for check-in is 60 minutes before the flight is scheduled to depart.
Lufthansa baggage allowance
Hand luggage: One piece is allowed, not weighing more than 8kg.
Checked: Economy class fliers can check one piece of luggage weighing no more than 23kg, no bigger than 158cm.
Excess: If you have a piece bigger than 158cm or weighing more than 23kg, there is a charge of $150. If your bag is heavier than 23kg and bigger than 158cm, there is $300 charge if it weighs less than 32kg and a $450 charge if it weighs between 32kg and 45kg. You are charged similarly for a second bag that is overweight, oversized or both.
Seat pitch: 79cm
Seats are generally assigned during online check-in. Lufthansa passengers may reserve seats on inter-continental flights up to 24 hours before departure.
Passenger change details
Bookings can be changed – if ticket restrictions permit – by contacting your travel agent or Lufthansa’s Call Centre.
Some child fares are available; check with the airline before booking. Infants under two may sit on an adult’s lap.
No senior fares are available.
Dogs and cats are allowed in the cabin. The animal and container must be less than 8kg and no bigger than 55cm x 40cm x 20cm. Notify Reservations (number above) in advance. It costs between $50 and $400 per flight, depending on the size of your animal as well as your starting point and destination. Guide dogs travel in the cabin free of charge.
Carrying musical instruments
Standard baggage allowances apply. A separate seat can be booked for a large instrument.
The meals and drinks are complimentary and the in-flight entertainment is great. In addition to the in-flight magazine, there is an extensive in-flight entertainment program featuring movies, television series, radio, audio books and games. There is also an in-flight entertainment program that plays different movies each month. Check online to see what’s available when you fly.
