I paid for the rental in advance based on pickup in Bergen and drop-off in Oslo. When I picked up the car in Oslo, I was charged an extra ~$200 for the one way itinerary.

The kiosk where you pick up the vehicle is not easy to find. After asking several people where it, it was broken, had to take a cab to their office 2 hours later and then 4 hours after getting to the kiosk finally got the keys to the car

Identification of Hertz pick location in Bergen on your web site was very poor. Signage of the pick location was next to non existent. A petrol car was ordered but an electric car was provided, without notice and without recharging instructions. The Hertz pickup kiosk did not accept my Australian drivers licence. This necessitated an extended telephone call to your staff. The car Cruise control did not work. We had great difficulty finding a recharge service that worked for the Hertz vehicle

AVIS in Bergen was extremely helpful. Due to the bicycle race we could not return the car as planned. The local AVIS people were very accommodating in agreeing to pick up the car and allowing us to catch our flight back to Stockholm. They could not have been more helpful. The poor rating is solely due to the excessive one-way fees and the failure to explain these to us.

Nobody unexplained costs for a one-way rental and fact that they could change this fee at their discretion. The Bergen AVIS office increased the one-way fee by 3x (from 4000 SEK to 12000 SEK) without any notice that they were doing that. We did not discover this until we returned from our trip and I checked our credit card statement. The total cost of the 3-day rental was over $2300.00. We feel cheated and taken advantage of and will likely not rent from AVIS again! When I called AVIS customer service I was told there was nothing that could be done....in essence it was our fault for not asking in advance. extremely disappointed.

The car itself was fine.

When I arrived in Bergen, Norway, to get the car, I was charged an additional $167 for "mandatory" insurance, despite the fact that I had selected insurance when I made the original rental agreement. I agreed only because I could not rent the car without agreeing, and my itinerary depended on having a car from that day. Immediately after returning to the US, I researched the "mandatory" insurance, but even Avis was unable to tell me. I am currently in a dispute with Avis through my credit card company. I also received an additional charge of $25.43 with no explanation. When I requested on, Avis sent documents in Norwegian rather than sending docs in a language I can understand.

We were assigned a manual transmission car which neither of us knew how to drive and asked for a different car which we were given. The customer service was great and we loved the car we were given

The address given to us to return the car was incorrect and had us show up at a location that was incorrect. When we dropped the car off at the correct location (which took a while to find), there was a sign on the door telling us to drop the keys off in another location. The other location took us over 30 minutes to find and involved us carrying around all of our luggage all over the street in the rain. It was absolutely the worst experience I've ever had renting a car. I tried calling the 1800 number multiple times and was never able to be connected to someone who could help. I will not be renting from Avis or budget again.

When we dropped the car off, there was no one to check the car, hand in the key, etc. We had to go into the airport terminal & give the key back to the desk. A day or so later, we got an email saying that we had damaged the car. Included were pictures that showed a MINISCULE scuff on one of the wheel rims. Will Sixt actually "repair" the rim? Not a chance. This seems to be simply a way to soak more money from the customer.
