Delta Air Lines Check-in

Delta offers several check-in options: online (up to 24 hours before departure), mobile (from a PDA or web-enabled phone), and curbside or at the airport (kiosk or counter).

Delta Air Lines baggage allowance

Hand luggage: One bag is permitted, weighing no more than 18kg, with dimensions not exceeding 36cm x 23cm x 56cm, plus a personal item.

Checked: For travel within and between the US, Canada, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, the first bag will cost you $25 and the second bag $35.

For travel to Mexico, Aruba, Bahamas and Cayman Islands, the first bag is free. You’re charged $30 for the second bag.

For travel from the US or Canada to Europe or India, the first bag is free and the second is $60 if checked in online and $75 if checked in at the airport.

For travel to Brazil, two bags are free weighing up to 32kg each.

Excess: Checking a third bag will cost you $125 and the fourth $200. If your bag weighs between 23kg and 32kg, it’ll cost you $90 and you’ll have to pay $175 if it weighs between 32kg and 45kg for flights within or between the US, Canada, Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands. Bags weighing more than 45kg aren’t accepted. For flights from the US or Canada to Europe, you are charged $75 for bags weighing between 23kg and 32kg. Bags weighing more than 32kg aren’t accepted.

For oversized bags, there is a charge of $175 for bags between 160cm and 203cm and a charge of $300 for bags between 203cm and 292cm. Bags bigger than 292cm aren’t accepted on flights within and between the US, Canada, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Passenger change details

The ability to change passenger information depends on the type of ticket purchased. Tickets are either refundable or non-refundable. In general, the cheapest tickets are non-refundable. To make a change to your itinerary – if you are flying with Delta, Delta Connection, or Delta Shuttle – visit delta.com, then Itineraries and select Edit Itinerary. If you are flying with a partner airline, contact Delta directly. Change fees range from $150 for travel within the US to $250 for travel outside the US.

Child fares

Infants under two can travel for free on an adult’s lap on domestic flights. For international flights, infants will be charged 10 percent of the adult fare. There are no child fares available on domestic flights. Some discounts are available on international flights – contact the reservation centre for more information.

Pets

Pets can travel in the cabin with passengers for a one-way fee of $125 on domestic flights and $200 for travel outside of the US. Pets cannot be checked as baggage during summer months (May 15 – Sept. 15) due to temperature and health risks. There is a $200 charge if your pet flies as checked baggage.

Carrying musical instruments

Standard baggage allowances apply. A seat may be purchased to carry a large or fragile instrument – in accordance with Delta’s regulations – instead of checking it.

In-flight service

For flights less than two hours long, complimentary snacks and beverages are available. For flights two to three-and-a-half hours, snacks and a complimentary meal are available. For flights over three-and-a-half hours, a choice of complimentary meals is available, as well as snacks and beverages. Special meals are available by contacting the reservation centre. There is internet access on Delta’s aircraft as well as access to a wide variety of movies, music and TV shows.

Airline overview

Delta Air Lines' history goes back to 1924 and the first aerial crop-dusting company. It is the largest airline in the world and flies to almost 400 destinations in 66 countries. Nearly 2 million passengers take to the skies with Delta each year. In 2008, Delta bought Northwest Airlines and the merger process was completed in January 2010. In May 2009, Delta and the Air France-KLM Group announced that they will be coordinating their transatlantic services. Delta and Air France/KLM will cooperate on routes between North America and Africa, the Middle East, India, Europe and most countries in Latin America.
