Air Transat Check-in

Passengers should check-in at least three hours before the flight is due to take off. Check-in counters close one hour prior to departure. Air Transat also offers passengers, when leaving from major Canadian cities and from Rome (Italy), the opportunity to check in online 24 hours prior to the departure of their flight.

Air Transat baggage allowance

Hand luggage: One carry-on bag is permitted per person not exceeding 20cm x 40cm x 51cm in size, including handles and wheels. For flights going to and from the United States, Ireland and the UK, weight cannot exceed 5kg(11lbs). For all other destinations, 10kg(22lbs) is allotted.

Checked: The checked baggage allowance varies by destination. Any number of pieces are accepted as long as the overall weight does not exceed the allowance. To or from South and the US, you are allowed to check in bags weighing up to 20kg. For flights to or from Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands, you are allotted 23kg for your bags. For flights to or from the UK (including Belfast, Dublin and Shannon in the Republic of Ireland), you are allotted 20kg for your bags. Certain cruise passengers are allowed bags weighing no more than 25kg. 30kg are allotted for flights to or from Rome and Venice. For flights to and from Pescara and Lamezia, 40kg of baggage is allotted and for flights to or from Haiti and Portugal, 50kg is allowed.

Excess: Excess baggage fees at Air Transat counters cost CA$12 per kilogram for flights to and from South destinations, or CA$15 per kilogram each way for all destinations in Europe.

Pre-arranged seating

Select seats online up to two days prior to departure for flights departing from Canada and southern destinations to most destinations and three days prior to departure for flights departing from all European cities.

Passenger change details

To change a reservation, contact your travel agent. If travel arrangements were made online, via Air Transat's website, call 1-866-391-6654 (9am-9pm EST, seven days/week).

Child fares

Infants up to the age of two travel free of charge, in the parent's lap. If a child's second birthday occurs prior to the return leg of the trip, a ticket must be purchased for the child for the return flight and a seat will be assigned to him or her.

Pets

Animals aren't allowed in the cabin with passengers with the exception of service animals. Only cats and dogs are accepted as animals for carriage in the cargo hold. Reserve your pet's place with Air Transat at least 72 hours prior to departure by phoning the call centre (1-877-TRANSAT) or 514-636-3630 from the Montreal area. For travel to and from Europe, the fee is CA$250 or local currency equivalent each way per animal regardless of the animal's weight. For all other flights, the fee is CA$100 or local currency equivalent each way per animal.

Carrying musical instruments

Small musical instruments are accepted for free if they are used as carry-on baggage. Your instrument would then replace the carry-on baggage allowance. To check-in a musical instrument costs, you'd have to pay $10 per kg each way for flights to or from southern destinations or $15 per kg each way for all other destinations.

In-flight service

On all flights, passengers will find complimentary water, tea, coffee, soft drinks and juices. Alcoholic beverages and snacks are sold on board. Transat provides a wide selection of audio and video entertainment. On flights lasting over two and a half hours, they offer newly released movies and a broad selection of videos. If you'd like to use the in-flight entertainment, you can purchase Air Transat's reusable headset for a minimal charge (free for children 11 and under).
