Air China Check-in

Web check-in is available up to three hours before the flight is scheduled to depart. Check in up to one day in advance for all flights from Vancouver to China. At Vancouver Airport, check-in desks close 45 minutes before the flight is scheduled to take off. Passengers who have purchased Air China’s international e-tickets may choose to complete check-in procedures and print their boarding pass via their local Air China website. The online check-in service allows you to choose flight seats, accrue mileage and print boarding passes.

Air China baggage allowance

Hand luggage: One piece is permitted up to 5kg in weight with dimensions of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm.

Checked: For flights between Canada and China, Economy-Class passengers are allowed two pieces of baggage and one for each infant weighing up to 23kg each.

Excess: Each piece of luggage that exceeds 23kg or is larger than 273cm is charged at US$25.

Passenger change details

Details can be changed online or by calling the airline. Unusually, it also possible to apply for refunds on tickets online, as long as they have been purchased on the Air China website. See the Website e-ticket refund page.

Child fares

Infants (under two years) can travel on an adult's lap for 10 percent of the published fare. Infants occupying their own seats and children between two and 12 will pay 75 percent of the regular adult priced ticket. Unaccompanied minors will pay 100 percent of the adult priced ticket.

Pets

Only guide dogs are allowed in the cabin. Small animals such as a cat or dog can be transported by Air China in the cargo section. If you would like to take your pet along on your Air China flight, please register the pet when you book your ticket and check in your pet at least 120 minutes before the flight departure time. Animals accepted as baggage constitute excess baggage, with the applicable charges.

Carrying musical instruments

Musical instruments fewer than 100cm in length can be carried as normal baggage. Instruments that aren't suitable for carriage in the cargo compartment may be allowed in the cabin. Passengers should contact the airline in advance. There may be a charge for carrying musical instruments.

In-flight service

A variety of special meals are available on Air China flights. The choice of special meals is listed on the website. You may request a special meal when you are booking online, or you may contact a local Air China office. Please note that all special meal requests require a minimum 24 hour notice prior to flight departure. (Exception: Kosher meals require 72 hours notice prior to departure.)

Air miles

The airline operates the Phoenix Miles program. Members earn mileages for travel on Air China, its affiliated partner airlines and partner airlines. The companion card may be upgraded to VIP status. There are special redemption rates for VIP members – Gold card members and Platinum card Members.

Airline overview

Established in 1998, Air China comprises China National Aviation Company and China Southwest Airlines. In addition to scheduled passenger flights, the flag carrier flies Chinese national leaders around the world and brings foreign leaders to China. Air China's base is in Beijing and there are bases at Shanghai and Huanan too. In Canada, the airline flies from Vancouver to Beijing.
