A look at the cost of transporting your skis or snowboard this winter by airline:

Air Canada Ski equipment counts as one piece of luggage toward baggage allowance. Set of skis, one helmet and one boot bag counts as one piece. No oversize charge applies to skis or snowboards.
Air France Ski equipment counts as one piece of luggage toward baggage allowance. Excess fees (over 23kg) depend on route. Ski and snowboard equipment must be placed in an adapted container and confirmed with sales department by phone.
Alaska Airlines Ski equipment counts as one piece of luggage toward baggage allowance. A fee applies to equipment over 23kg. Skis and boot bag or snowboard and boot bag constitute one piece of equipment.
American Airlines Ski equipment counts as one piece of luggage toward baggage allowance. Dimensions are limited. Skis/snowboard: 320cm, Boot bag: 114cm (LxWxH).
British Airways Ski equipment counts as one piece of luggage toward BA’s (free) baggage allowance. BA will accept skis and snowboards of all dimensions provided they are packed correctly.
Delta Air Lines Ski equipment counts as one piece of luggage toward baggage allowance. Fees apply if the combined weight of the ski/snowboard and boot bag exceed 23kg.
Porter Airlines Ski equipment counts as one piece of luggage toward baggage allowance. Limited liability release tags (LRT) must be completed and signed.
United Airlines Ski equipment counts as one piece of luggage toward baggage allowance. Overweight fees will apply if heavier than 23kg.
US Airways Ski equipment counts as one piece of luggage toward baggage allowance. US Airways will accept two ski bags. Ski equipment consists of one pair of skis or a snowboard, one pair of ski boots, one pair of ski poles and one pair of ski bindings.
Virgin America Ski equipment counts as one piece of luggage toward baggage allowance. Ski equipment, including poles and boots, must be enclosed in a container or travel bag.
Virgin Atlantic Ski equipment is transported at no extra charge. Fees apply if the equipment exceeds 23kg.
WestJet Ski equipment counts as one piece of luggage toward baggage allowance (excess fees waived on first piece). A set comprises helmet, skis or snowboard, boots and poles.
