Not all hotels are created equal and what you get in a small guesthouse won’t be equal to the amenities you get at a five-star property, but there are a few things we’d like the average hotel to have. Here’s our wish list for amenities that would be great to have in every hotel.

Free WiFi

So many hotels still insist on charging for WiFi and those charges don’t often come cheap. It’s always a pleasant surprise to find out that the spot you’ll be resting your head for a few days won’t charge you to check your email.

Facial cleanser

One thing that never seems to make it into the collection of hotel amenities like shower gel and shampoo, is facial cleanser. Sure, what you choose to wash your face with is a personal decision, but a small bottle of basic facial cleanser or even a package of makeup cleansing wipes would be a welcome sight for anyone who forgot to bring their own.

Free (continental) breakfast

There’s something comforting about knowing that you can get a coffee and something small to eat when you wake up, without having to leave your hotel to do it. Hotels that offer a continental breakfast included with the cost of the room are adding a helpful perk for guests.

A restaurant

While not necessary, it is nice when hotels have a restaurant on-site. If you get in late, or just want a quick snack or drink, knowing you don’t have to leave the hotel to do so is an added bonus.

A safe

Whether you’re travelling with your laptop or other gadgets, or you need to stow your passport for safe keeping, a safe in the room means you can feel secure about your belongings when you’re not in the hotel.

A mini fridge (with space)

Many hotel rooms have a mini fridge, but they can be packed with overpriced items. Having even a small area to put snacks or drinks you’ve purchased on your own would be appreciated. You can save money while travelling by having quick snacks around or by storing away your leftovers to enjoy the next day.

Full length mirrors

It’s surprising how many hotel rooms don’t come equipped with a full-length mirror. Knowing what your top half looks like is all well and good, but in order to put an outfit together you really need to see your whole body.
