When describing your vacation in words simply won’t do, why not turn to emoji?

Emojis are Japanese ideograms that have gained popularity worldwide. From social media sites to text messages, cute and colourful emoji are finding their way into everyday communication.

When describing travel adventures, there appears to be an emoji that captures nearly every emotion and message without the pesky use of words. So, ditch the postcards and grab your smartphone to create these greetings on the go.

Free upgrade to first class!

While scoring a free upgrade is not the norm, you never know when you may get lucky. It doesn’t hurt to arrive early, be polite and cross your fingers that you might be handed a golden ticket to the front of the plane.

Lost!

With Google Maps easily at our disposal, it is much harder to get lost these days, but it does happen. For those moments, text this out while your companion checks the map and refuses to ask for directions.

My significant other went on vacation and all I got was this lousy T-shirt

Here’s a digital version of this ubiquitous tacky tourist souvenir. Doghouse emoji forthcoming.

Insta-jealousy

The perfect way to brag to your friends about your travels. You may not be insta-famous yet, but your friends will certainly be jealous. Follow Cheapflights on Instagram for travel inspiration.

#EasterIsland

For a brag-worthy bon voyage, nothing beats a social media update from #EasterIsland.

Longest. Flight. Ever.

Long-haul flights are no joke. Try flying from Newark, N.J. to Hong Kong in coach (the 13,000-kilometre flight takes 16 hours) and you might find yourself tapping this message out in frustration.

Italy bucket list goals

When you’ve had your fill of all the decadent treats Italy has to offer, you may be too full to type entire words. While you might not struggle for reasons to make use of the pizza emoji, we can think of no more deserving use for it than while dining al fresco in Rome.

Island vacation state of mind

Soaking up the sun with a frozen fruity cocktail in one hand, a good book in the other and feet firmly submerged in powder soft sand is the quintessential day of bliss for many travellers. Life’s a beach (here’s 40 beach porn photos to prove it).

Should have worn different shoes for this Paris walking tour

Chances are good you will find a pair (or two, or three) that you can’t live without in the boutiques that line Paris‘ Champs-Élysées.

Too much coffee in the city that never sleeps

There are more than 1,700 cafes and coffee shops in New York City, according to the New York City Economic Development Corporation. No wonder it is so easy to get a coffee buzz 24/7.

Over packing problems

We’ve all been there. What’s your packing personality?

Multigenerational travel

Who needs Groupon when you have three generations splitting the costs of a multigeneration vacation?

Shopping spree!

New York City, Paris, Milan….the choices for shopping holidays are endless. Better pack sensible shoes!

Honeymooning

Romantic getaway + destination wedding = Honeymooning. Shoot out this message and then shut down your phone for some quality time.

Getting over a breakup

The best way to get over someone usually involves palm trees and, perhaps, a fruity drink.

Ugh! I drank the water…sigh

Unless you want to dine on the B.R.A.T diet (Bananas, Applesauce, Rice and Toast), brush up on these food and water safety tips from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Ahhh….Getting pampered on a spa-liday

So many spa treatments, so little time.

Hungover

It happens.

When in Japan…

There are 1,001 reasons to visit Japan – sleek, high-speed trains, steamy soothing hot springs, sensational sake, and yummy food like oden and bento boxes packed with delicate sushi. For as many reasons as there are to visit (and boast about) Japan, there are emoji, After all, this is the land from which they were created.

Grr… No cellphone coverage!?

The nightmare of teenagers (and adults) almost everywhere.

What happens in Vegas…

What happens in Vegas may stay in Vegas, but you may want to share stories from your trip. After all, there are tons of ways to beat the heat during a summer getaway to Las Vegas.
