Overview
Lying at the foot of lush, green hills and bounded by sandy beaches on the Pacific Coast, Puerto Vallarta is one of Mexico’s most popular destinations.
Historic old streets and a thriving artistic community, championship golf courses and superb diving, surfing, sailing and snorkelling make it an unmissable destination. Off shore, whale-watching and wild dolphin-watching are good reasons to take cheap flights to Puerto Vallarta. Back on dry land, the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe (La Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe) is a standout attraction dedicated to the patron saint of the town. Although the bell tower’s iron crown toppled during an earthquake in 1995, the same loyal stone angels support its fibreglass replacement.
For more earthly pleasures, Tequila is nearby. A side trip to the town where the blue agave plants are used to produce the national drink come straight up or with a twist of, what else, lime.
