American Airlines launched Fuel Smart in 2005 to engage its workers and help lower the airline’s carbon footprint.
There is less of a need to fly a few extra hours for an out-of-the-way layover in order to to save a few dollars. American Airlines’ hubs are conveniently spread across a number of U.S. states at airports such as DFW, JFK, LAX, MIA and ORD.
First and business class passengers are given Samsung Galaxy tablets to use for movie watching, music, games, and other entertainment; this supplies a step in the right technology direction for American.
American Airlines' has been loyal to its fliers for many years; the AAdvantage program was the first major service for frequent fliers, and was launched in 1981.
American’s a founding member of oneworld, which is the world’s largest alliance of airlines. This allows flyers to redeem miles with over 10 of the world’s top airlines for different travel awards.
There are several options for checking in. You can check in online via "Flight Check-in" on the AA homepage, which is available between 24 hours and one hour before departure. There are self-service check-in kiosks at the airport as well as curbside check-in. For travel within the US, Puerto Rico and on flights to Hawaii and the US Virgin Islands, you should check in at least 90 minutes before flight departure if checking baggage, and 60 minutes if luggage-free. For international flights, you should check-in at least two hours before departure.
Hand luggage: On flights within Canada and the US, you may carry one piece of hand luggage plus a personal item. The size of the carry-on item must be no more than 114cm and the maximum weight of the bag and personal item is 18kg.
Checked: Checked luggage should be no bigger than 157cm or weigh more than 23kg. The charges are $25 for the first checked piece, $35 for the second, $150 for the third, fourth and fifth, and $200 per piece for the sixth checked bag and any additional pieces.
Excess: Checked baggage weighing over 23kg but not more than 32kg will be charged at the rate of $100 per piece. Checked baggage weighing over 32kg but not more than 45kg will be charged at the rate of $200 per piece. Baggage weighing more than 45kg will not be accepted as checked baggage.

Children two years of age and older must travel in a purchased seat, at an adult fare. Infants under two years of age may be held in an adult's lap at no charge.
Selected senior fares are offered, though this tends to apply only to routes within the US. Call the airline directly to enquire.
Pets travelling in the cabin require a reservation to ensure no more than seven pets are booked on any single flight. For this reason, it is recommended that you make arrangements for your pet in advance by contacting the reservation line. Cats and dogs are the only types of pets accepted for travel on American Airlines. Checked pets do not need a reservation and are charged $175. There is a charge of $125 for pets in the cabin.
Small musical instruments may be carried onboard the aircraft providing they meet existing hand luggage size requirements and fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you. If an instrument is too large to fit in the carry-on baggage space, an additional seat may be purchased. In this case, an instrument must travel in a window seat, with you sitting in the seat next to it. Due to their size, bass fiddles are not accepted in the coach cabin and are only accepted on certain aircraft types. Instruments may also be transported as checked baggage, however, due to their fragile nature AA does not accept liability for damages and has limited liability for loss. AA is also not liable for any damage to checked musical instruments not presented in a hard-sided case.
AA sells meals and snacks at costs that range from $3 for a cookie and chips to $10 for a Boston Market sandwich and chips. Special meals can be ordered in advance by calling AA at 1-800-433-7300. Magazines are available on all flights and on longer flights AA offers inflight television, movies, music and more.
The AAdvantage program is American Eagle’s and American Airline’s travel awards program. Miles accumulated in the program allow members to redeem tickets, upgrade service class, or obtain free or discounted car rentals, hotel stays, merchandise, or other products and services through partners.
