The US Virgin Islands comprises three islands: St Thomas, St John and St Croix. This is the Caribbean of the postcards, crystal blue waters, white sands and a laid-back lifestyle, which combine tokeep travellers booking flights to the US Virgin Islands every year.
The most developed and most-visited of the islands is St Thomas. Most resorts are on this island, along with some of the finest beaches. In contrast, St John is the smallest of the US Virgin Islands. This is a protected landmass andmore than 60 per cent of the land is controlled by the US National Park Service. Holidaymakers looking to escape the resorts of St Thomas and enjoy nature flock here.St Croix is the largest islands. Though notas serene as St John, the pace of life is still more relaxed than that of bustling St Thomas. Travellers booking flights to the US Virgin Islands should visit St Croix if they want to enjoy the nightlife.
The US Virgin Islands are humid and hot all year long. Most of the rain falls from August through October. The islands fill up during the northern hemisphere’s winter months. The best time for diving and snorkelling is between April and August, when waters and calm and underwater visibility is best.
There are airports on the islands of St Thomas and St Croix (Cyril E King Airport, the most popular gateway to the islands, and Henry E Rohlsen International Airport, respectively).
Several airlines fly between St Thomas and St Croix, including Air St Thomas; Air Sunshine; American Eagle; Bohlke International Airways; Leeward Island Air Transport (LIAT) and Seaborne Airlines. Helicopter service is also available.
Once on the islands, it’s possible to travel by car, and rental is available from many companies.
Several ferries also travel between the islands.
