Only four hours north of New York City and two hours south of Montreal, you’ll find the six-million acre Adirondack Park, comprised of mountains, rivers, lakes and valleys just waiting to be explored.

The vast area offers a seemingly endless array of things to see and do, and should be on every travellers bucket list. If it’s outdoor adventure you crave, there is plenty to be had in the Adirondacks. From the mountain biking trails around Lake Placid, to the opportunities for white water rafting on the Hudson River, to canoeing and kayaking on more than 3,000 lakes – you won’t be bored for a second.

If you’d rather not hike, bike, canoe or camp, there are scenic drives you can take, more than 100 towns and villages in the area to explore, national heritage sites to visit and many renowned restaurants and bistros to refuel at as you explore.

There are also many options when it comes to where to rest your head during your stay in the Adirondacks. You can sleep under the stars (there are thousands of campsites to choose from), opt for a cozy cabin or book a few nights at a luxury inn depending on the type of experience you want to have.

If you’re intrigued, check out these pictures that give you a taste of what the Adirondacks have to offer.
