Most visitors book flights to North Carolina to visit the state where flying first took off. The Wright Brothers powered the first flight in 1903 at Kill Devil Hill near Kitty Hawk. Today, visitors can pay homage to the first man-powered flight at the Wright Memorial at Kitty Hawk.
The southern state offers a wealth of attractions and activities from the beaches at the Outer Banks, overnight camp trips in the Great Smoky Mountains, or some shopping in one of North Carolina’s major shopping districts. To date, North Carolina produces the largest amount of furniture in the US.
Annually, North Carolina sees more than $1 billion from visitors booking North Carolina flights and hotel accommodations. Travellers to North Carolina take part in everything from golfing, skiing, fishing and of course, some serious shopping, keeping people coming back for more.

North Carolina’s climate on the southern coast can be in the mid-teens in January, with summer temperatures cooled to the low 20s by ocean breezes. The Piedmont gets very hot and humid with temperatures in the 30s. Peak hurricane season is from August all the way to October. Spring and autumn are great times to visit.
Catching an internal flight is a quick and cheap way to get around the state. Trains serve the major inland cities, and there is frequent bus service in the Piedmont (the central part of the state). Ferries along the coast connect some of the coastal town.
The shoreline and mountains in the west are best explored by car, especially the Blue Ridge Parkway through the mountains. The highways tend to be well maintained and some have rest areas with picnic and cooking facilities.
North Carolina’s cities and towns including the Charlotte Uptown area and the downtown areas of the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill) are best explored on foot. The towns also have convenient and inexpensive public transportation.
