Aeroméxico, or Airways of Mexico, SA de CV, was founded in 1934 by Antonio Díaz Lombardo. The former air carrier Pan American World Airways owned a quarter of the airline and helped the airline establish itself over the next few decades. In the 1950s, the airline was nationalized and remained under the control of the government for several decades before being privatized again. While the airline faced some setbacks during the Gulf War due to rising fuel costs and following the Sept. 11 attacks, which caused stocks to plummet, the carrier has since enjoyed an increase in revenue and net income. The airline is now a leader in both domestic and international flights to and from Mexico and services 55 destinations with its fleet of Boeing aircrafts.
