Aer Lingus Check-in


Web Check-in and 30 Day Advance Web Check-in are available on selected routes.

Web Check-in

You can use Web Check-in from 30 to two hours before your scheduled departure time.

Web check-in is available on all flights between Ireland and the UK, Continental Europe and the USA. Flights operated by codeshare or interline partners are not eligible.

Passengers travelling from the USA with web boarding passes must visit the dedicated Web check-in desk at least 45 minutes before their departure time.

Seats are automatically assigned, but you can change your seats by clicking the ‘Change Seats’ button on the ‘Seating‘ page.

30 Day Advance Check-in

Passengers can use Advance Check-in when they book via and they have between 30 days and 30 hours before their scheduled flight time.

30 Day Advance Web Check-in is available on all flights between Ireland and the UK, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Lyon, Nice, Paris, Toulouse, Perpignan, Marseille, Bordeaux, Amsterdam, Rennes, and Agadir.

Mobile Check-in

The Aer Lingus mobile app allows you to check-in, and retrieve your boarding pass straight from your smartphone.
A link to your boarding pass will be sent either to your email account or as a txt to your phone.
Download the app for your smartphone from either the Google Play or iTunes stores.

Aer Lingus baggage allowance



One single piece of cabin baggage sized no more than 21.5in x 15.5in x 9.5in. For regional flights (flight numbers 3000 to 4000 operated by Aer Arann) the size limits are a little smaller at 18.5in x 13in x 7.5in.

Etihad Codeshare flights limits are 23.5in x 13.5in x 7.5in.

The weight limit is 22lb (15lb for Aer Lingus Regional and Etihad Codeshare flights).

Business Class

Business Class, Gold Circle cardholders and Flex Fare customers are permitted one additional personal item (e.g. a laptop, handbag) to be stowed under the seat in front.


Short Haul flights (within Europe)

Passengers traveling on Low Fare Economy tickets must pay for each checked bag. Economy Plus Fare can check one bag at no cost and Economy Flex Fare travelers get two checked bags free.

A maximum of three bags per passenger can be booked on the website with a total maximum weight of 44lbs. Excess weight is charged per kilo per flight in excess of the allowance.

Long Haul flights (to/from USA)

Economy Low Fare passengers can check-in one bag weighing no more than 50lbs free of charge while  Economy Flex Fare passengers are permitted two bags under 50lbs each free of charge.

Business Class passengers are permitted to check three bags under 50lbs each free of charge.

For Aer Lingus operated routes two bags per-passenger can be booked online and on non-Aer Lingus routes one bag can be booked online. Additional bags can be paid for locally at the airport.

Your first bag should measure less than 62ins and all subsequent bags should be under 55ins.

Long Haul flights (Etihad codeshare flights)

Passengers can check-in two bags free of charge and a baggage fee will apply to all additional checked bags. An excess weight fee is charged for any bag over 50lbs.

Bag Drop

After you check-in online you can proceed directly to the Bag Tag and Drop desk to process your checked luggage.

Please note that Bag Tag and Drop off desks are not available at all airports.


Animals are not accepted on shorthaul flights (Ireland, UK, Europe due to insufficient ventilation in the cargo hold on its shorthaul Airbus fleet.

Animals can be booked on direct flights between Ireland and New York, Boston, Chicago and Orlando on Aer Lingus flights only and all animals will be transported in the Cargo Hold.

Animals need to be at least 10 weeks old when travelling and reservation staff must be informed beforehand.

Separate procedures apply for passengers travelling with Service Animals (Seeing Eye Dogs).

Animals can be confirmed on Aer Lingus flights from 30 days prior to travel.

The following breeds of dogs will not to be carried under any circumstances on any Aer Lingus aircraft: Akita, Argentino, Fila Brazillero, Mastiff, Pit Bull and Tosa

Note: animals cannot be shipped from the USA on Fridays or Saturdays.

Travelling from Ireland: Pets (cats & dogs only) can be booked as excess baggage by contacting Aer Lingus reservations. There is a €160 per flight sector per crate payable at the airport on the day of departure. If the passenger is not travelling with the animal, or the animal isn’t a household pet, they will be booked as cargo.

Aer Lingus Regional flights: Only domestic cats, dogs and rabbits will be accepted on Aer Lingus Regional flights. This applies to domestic flights within Ireland and flights between Ireland and the UK.

At the time of booking, you must call Aer Lingus Reservations and a €40 fee per crate, per flight also applies.

Musical instruments:

Carry On

A musical instrument can be carried in the cabin provided it is within the hand baggage size and weight limits.

Extra Seat

If the instrument is larger than the permitted hand baggage size, e.g. a guitar, and the passenger wishes to carry it into the cabin, they will have to purchase an additional seat. The instrument should be booked under the name of the instrument e.g. Guitar/One Ms or Saxophone/One Ms. The actual weight of the instrument, including its case, must not exceed 165lbs.

The maximum dimensions that Aer Lingus Regional can accommodate an instrument on a seat are: 16in x 23in x 37in.


Larger musical equipment must be checked in. Normal excess baggage rates will also apply.

Sports equipment

The maximum weight for carriage of sports equipment is 33lbs. Normal excess baggage rates apply if you carry over the maximum allowance.

If you are travelling on Aer Lingus Regional flights carrying sports equipment is subject to available space on the day.

Passengers can travel with bicycles, diving equipment, fishing equipment, golf bags, ski gear, surf boards, wind surf equipment, snow boards, and sports guns.

Pre-arranged seating

Passengers can choose to select and book their seat before check-in. This service is available on the confirmation page when you book online or by clicking on ‘Manage Booking’ from the homepage. Shorthaul seat fees start from EUR5 and Longhaul seat fees start from EUR20. Seat fees are non-refundable.

Passenger change details

Name Changes

Name changes can be made for €100 per person and can be changed up to two hours prior before departure, but are not permitted for bookings with airlines other than Aer Lingus in the itinerary.

Date/Itinerary/Route Changes:

Low Fare/Plus Fare – Short Haul flights (Between Ireland/UK/Europe)

Changes are allowed on for €40 or through the Call Center for €50 per person per flight, plus any difference in cost between the original price paid and the new price. However, there will be no refund/travel credit if the new fare is cheaper.

Low Fare – Long Haul flights (Between Ireland and USA)

Change fees of €100 per person per flight apply, plus any difference in cost between the two flights. However, there will be no refund/travel credit of the difference if the new fare is lower.

Flex Fare

No Itinerary change fee will apply.


Date, time and route changes are allowed subject to availability plus any difference in cost between the two prices, but there will be not refund if the new price is lower.

Business Flex

Date, time and route changes are allowed subject to availability and can be made up to 2 hours prior to the flight departure time.

Missed Departure Change

(flights between Ireland and the UK/Europe only)

If a passenger arrives at the airport after check-in has closed, but before their flight has departed, they may change their flight at the airport to the next available Aer Lingus flight to the same destination, or another destination in the same country as the original booked flight for a fee of €75 or equivalent.

Child fares

Infants – 6 months or under: If the child is under 6 months of age the infant must sit on an adults’ knee. The fee is a flat rate of €20 on all shorthaul routes and 10 per cent of the adult fare on flights to the USA. Infants – between 6 months and 2 years: Parents have two options when traveling with children aged up to two years. They can either travel with the child sitting on their knee for a fee of €20 on all shorthaul routes or 10 per cent of the adult fare on flights to the USA or can purchase a seat for the infant at the appropriate fare. Note: One adult cannot be responsible for more than two infants. Children under age of 12: On Transatlantic flights, Aer Lingus offer a 10 per cent child discount for passengers between the ages of 2 and 11.

Senior fares

No discounts are offered for seniors.

In-flight service

If traveling in Business Class you can watch the latest blockbuster films on your own personal 10.5 inch screen from the comfort of a lie flat seat. In-seat power points are located under the seat cushion on all aircraft between every two seats.

Air miles

Aer Lingus’ frequent flyer program is called the Gold Circle Club. Members can earn and spend frequent flyer points on Aer lingus and partner member flights and on a range of services.

Whether traveling long or short haul, Aer Lingus’ in-flight cuisine uses fresh and seasonal produce.

Short Haul

With Aer Lingus’ on-board Sky Deli fresh and tasty food and refreshing beverages are available to purchase throughout the day.

Long Haul Economy

When traveling to and from North America you have two dining options. First, you can select either a complimentary meal or pay to upgrade to enhanced meal service.

Business Class

Enjoy restaurant quality food and drink with wines specially picked to match each and every course. All Business Class meals are served on Waterford Crystal and Wedgwood China.

The Cara Magazine is the in-flight magazine available on all Aer Lingus flights and is published monthly.

While not a member of any alliances, Aer Lingus codeshares with Oneworld, Star Alliance and SkyTeam members and has agreements with Aer Arann, JetBlue Airways and United Airlines.
