When to fly to Bahamas
Peak Season:
Winter – October to April – is high season, when most visitors arrive on cheap flights to the Bahamas.
Off Season:
The summer months, May to September, are low season. Temperatures and humidity levels are higher, plus there is the chance of hurricanes (hurricane season starts in June and runs through November).
Overview
A country composed of 700 islands and 2,000 cays, the Bahamas offer a wealth of possibilities for memorable vacations. The hardest decision for those thinking about booking cheap flights to the Bahamas is which island to visit. The weather is excellent year-round, the beaches soft-sanded and idyllic, the pace of life slow and easy, and there are activities to suit almost every type of traveller.
The Bahamas was once ruled by the British, and remains in the Commonwealth. Nassau, the capital (on New Providence Island, connected to Paradise Island), is where you’ll experience the traces of that era. There are several grand residences, old forts and historic churches as well as star attraction for sun worshippers – Cable Beach. Freeport, on Grand Bahama Island, is the other ritzy destination.
To get a sense of the country’s history, visit the Out Islands (including the Abacos, great for sailors; Eleuthera/Harbour Island and the Exumas for the heart-stoppingly beautiful landscapes; Long Island; and Cat Island) where divers will be entranced by the clear, blue seas and colourful marine life.
Bahamas “cold” weather reaches a comfortable 21 C. The warm months average between 80 and 90 degrees with high humidity.
Once travellers have arrived on cheap flights to the Bahamas – either at Grand Bahama International Airport or Lynden Pindling International Airport – the fastest way of getting around the islands is by small aircraft. By water, visitors can hop a ride on The Bahamas’ mail boats or yacht.
On dry land, visitors can choose from rental cars (on the bigger islands), taxis or buses (sometimes called jitneys). Bike and scooter rental are also options. Remember to drive on the left – British rules apply.
