Cheap Flights to Djerba

Djerba overview

When is the best time to fly to Djerba?

Summer, between June and August, marks the tourist season in Djerba. These months see extremely hot, sunny weather and temperatures in the 20s to low 30s, which may be to the taste of sunbathing fans. However, for some people the summer weather can become oppressive. Instead, try a break in spring, when mild or even warm weather can be expected and the crowds will be sparse.

Hotel rates and airfares are likely to be at their most expensive during summer, so a holiday during a month or two either side will help visitors save. Alternatively look for a cheap flight to Djerba during winter. Temperatures don’t generally drop below 9 degrees during this time and can peak at around 18 degrees.

For many, the real reason to book flights to Djerba is to see the famous flamingos. If this is the case, try a holiday in October, when flamingo tours will be at their best.

City overview

Djerba is Tunisia's foremost coastal resort, offering gorgeous sandy beaches, the warm Mediterranean Sea, cultural attractions and ancient monuments - all within easy reach of modern, comfortable accommodation.

Located on its own small island, Djerba retains elements of traditional Tunisian culture. Visitors can learn all about the town's history at the Houmt Souk - an excellent museum located right at the heart of the lively market district. For unique souvenirs produced by local craftsmen, you can also head to the nearby village of Guellala, which produces exquisite pottery items. For a sense of how Tunisian culture is changing, take a stroll through Djerbahood - an area of town filled with spectacular street art.

However, although the town is charming, the real appeal of Djerba as a destination lies in its natural beauty. Head out to the Ras R'mel peninsular and take boat cruises to see the area's famous flamingo population, or simply relax in the almost year-round sunshine on one of the many endless sandy beaches.

Food lovers will also be in their element, as Djerba is one of the finest places on the Mediterranean to enjoy freshly caught seafood. Sample local delicacies like octopus and cous-cous, try chickpea soups or delicious mixed grilled vegetable salads. With such diversity, anybody can find something to devour at the town's many fine restaurants.

There are plenty of other attractions for anyone taking flights to Djerba: from tours of the synagogue, to the unique crocodile park and even a well-tended golf course, there is something to offer all visitors.
