As a peninsula more than 500km long, it is no wonder that Nova Scotia is known the world over for its spectacular water scenes – whether they be along its rugged coastline, countless rivers and lakes or even its waterfalls. As its name suggests, the area shares a heritage with Scotland and visitors should not be surprised to find a strong Scots presence throughout the province. Themed pubs and bagpipes lend the place permanent links to the old country that jostle with the natural wonders of the new world for visitors’ attention.
Most cheap flights to Nova Scotia arrive in Halifax where a number of Unesco World Heritage Sites can be visited. Nearby attractions also include Peggy’s Cove, which claims to be one of the most photographed lighthouses in the world. Finally, don’t forget that Nova Scotia is the world’s biggest exporter of lobsters so it would be a shame to leave before tucking into the local delicacy.
Nova Scotia enjoys warm summers and, unlike much of Canada, only moderately cold winters though it is the fall that most attracts visitors. Anyone arriving on cheap flights to Nova Scotia in the summertime will find prevailing temperatures in the low 20 degree Celsius range. During the winters, snowfall is moderate, but beware the fog and rain that is prevalent in the area in the spring.
Getting around Halifax is a straightforward affair with the metro bus system in operation. There is also a free city bus that plies a central route in the city between June and August.
Sightseeing throughout the remainder of the province is best done with a rental car but don’t forget to book in advance during peak periods.
