Web check-in is available 30 hours before departure. It closes one hour before take-off. At the airport, the check-in machines and desks are open at least two hours before departure. They close between 30 minutes and 60 minutes before departure, depending on the route. Check-in by mobile phone is available. Passengers can also check-in at the KLM Crown lounge at Toronto.
KLM baggage allowance
Carry-on: One piece of hand luggage weighing no more than 12kg and measuring 55 x 25 x 35 cm. A personal item is also permitted.
Checked: From Canada, the piece concept applies. Economy-Class fliers are allowed to check one piece of luggage, weighing a maximum of 23kg and measuring a maximum of 158cm.
Excess: Excess charges are applied to a second piece of luggage: $75. Each piece of luggage after that will cost $200 each. Overweight bags between 23kg and 32kg carry a fee of $75. For a piece of luggage weighing more than 32kg, the fee is $300. There is a charge of $300 for each piece of luggage between 158cm and 300cm.
Seats can be reserved when you make your booking online or seats will be assigned at check-in.
Passenger change details
The ability to make changes to a booking depends on the fare class. There may be an administration charge. E-tickets for flights booked at Europe Select, World Business Class, Economy Full Flex and Fully Flexible Corporate fares can be changed online via KLM.com. Passengers can also change or cancel tickets by phoning KLM Reservations.
Child fares are available. Infants younger than two years can travel on an adult's lap for a percentage of the full cost of the ticket.
Cats and dogs are carried, and can be in the cabin with you if they weigh less than 6kg, travel bag or kennel included. Contact Reservations to arrange transportation of your pet. The fee starts at about $200 each way. You need to make a reservation for your pet at least 48 hours in advance.
Carrying musical instruments
Standard baggage allowances apply. A separate seat can be purchased for a large or fragile instrument instead of checking it.
Meals are available on all flights, free of charge. Special dietary requirements will be catered for if requested at least 36 hours before departure. All seats on the Boeing 777, MD11 and Airbus A330 aircraft (and exclusively in World Business Class on board the Boeing 747), have personal screens and interactive entertainment. In-seat e-mail and SMS (text messaging) services are available on Boeing 777 and A330 aircraft. There are also language courses, audio books and audio channels to help pass the time.
The frequent flier program Flying Blue allows members to collect air miles with KLM, and more than 100 other airline and on-the-ground partners.
