Cathay Pacific is a founding member of the oneworld alliance.
According to aviation folklore the name "Cathay Pacific" was dreamt up by Roy C Farrell, an American, and some foreign correspondents in the bar at the Manila Hotel. Fact is that the airline was founded in Hong Kong in 1946 by Farrell and Sydney H de Kantzow. Cathay Pacific operates 14 flights weekly non-stop from Vancouver to Hong Kong, daily non-stop service from Vancouver to New York and seven flights weekly non-stop from Toronto to Hong Kong. In 2006, Cathay Pacific bought Dragonair and strengthened its cooperation agreement with Air China.
